Overview
Nuclear power provides about 10% of the world’s electricity, and 18% of electricity in OECD countries. Almost all reports on future energy supply suggest that these numbers will raise as nuclear power is an environmentally benign way of producing reliable electricity on a large scale.
Important advantages to nuclear energy includes its ability to produce massive amounts of carbon-free electricity, its low fuel cost and quantity which reduces mining and transportation effects on environment. Thereby nuclear power has one of the smallest carbon footprints and essential to our response to climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
